How to use the Silicone Moulds

Note that these instructions are based on our in-house testing. You should also explore the handling sheet, and conduct your own testing with fragrance loads, colouring and temperatures (download the complimentary testing sheet). How to use:

Prepare the mould by selecting the correct wick according to the provided chart on the LX wick range. Measure the wick length, and cut the wick accordingly.

Using a tapestry needle (one with a large eye) , thread the pre measures wick through the eye, then finding the centre of the silicone mould, gently piece a hole through, pulling the wick through with it. Secure the wick with a small piece ( ball ) either Prestik, our moulding clay, to stick it into place, and to “seal” it, remember this will be the top of the candle. Thereafter thread the wick through a placeholder at the top of the mould, you might have to remove the placeholder while pouring and place over again after to secure into place.

Lay down some newspaper because pouring any type of candles can be messy. Ensure that you work on a sturdy surface and your candle wicks are firmly in place. Note that the volume of the mould will differ from wax and pouring, one to the next as the fill line is to the top, but the candle might shrink depending on the blend.

Follow the step by step instructions available on each of the applicable waxes.

Unmoulding the Silicone candles

  • Leave the candles to dry completely for at least 12 hours. The mould should not be warm at all, and the wax completely set.
  • Remove the Prestik / moulding clay seal / tape seal, gently pull at the sides to loosen, then peel back the silicone, and gently pull the wicks through the hoes made with the needles turn around, and gently remove the candle.

Trim the wick off the base side of the candle, leaving the wick on the top shaped end before trimming.

Wick: Selection & Use

LX WICKS

Select the correct wick size from the chart to use in moulded candle making. Note that we sell the sustainers separately for these wicks and self-assembly is required, where applicable on the specific product.

Measure the length of the wick needed by placing the mould next to it, keep at least 4-5cm available at each of the ends, to ensure that then threading the wick, there is ample length on each side to secure the wick into place.

Care & Caution:

  • Place these moulds on a towel to ensure they are stable, and the tops are not flat from a hard surface.
  • If the Prestik / moulding clay lifts up the mould ( where you are ensuring a seal where the wick was threaded through, use strong packaging tape, and tape over this instead of the Prestik option.
  • You might have to top up with these moulds with wax due to paraffin wax’s shrinking characteristic. Keep a close eye on how the wax is drying, as sink holes might appear, and needs to be filled ( topped up)
  • If these sink holes appear, use a bbq stick to poke small holes around the wicks into the wax, to ensure the top up fills the cavities and ensures binding of the top up pour.
  • Use the same spaces where the initial holes was made for next use to avoid creating new holes in the mould, silicone is a great sealer, and should not seep wax, but be sure to seal with the tape. As mentioned above.
  • With Paraffin wax, you can do up to three pours to avoid and cavities in the candle, and to secure the smooth top.
