Creating beautiful and functional candle containers with the Silicone Ribbed Curved Mould is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to achieve professional results:
Materials Needed
- Silicone Ribbed Curved Mould (with lid mould)
- Cement or Jesmonite (or any preferred casting material)
- Mixing bowl and spatula
- Measuring cups or scale
- Water (for mixing with cement or Jesmonite)
- Release agent (optional, but recommended for easier de-moulding)
- Sandpaper (for finishing touches)
- Paint or sealant (optional, for finishing the container)
Follow the below steps:
- Ensure your workspace is clean, flat, and covered with protective material like plastic or newspaper to catch any spills.
- If desired, lightly spray or apply a release agent inside the silicone mould to ensure easy removal of the finished product.
- Cement: Mix the cement with water according to the manufacturer’s instructions in a mixing bowl. Stir until you achieve a smooth, lump-free consistency.
- Jesmonite: Mix the Jesmonite base with the liquid according to the recommended ratio (usually provided on the packaging). Stir thoroughly to achieve a smooth consistency.
- Carefully pour the prepared mixture into the mould, filling it up to the top. Gently tap the sides of the mould to release any air bubbles and ensure an even fill.
- Use a spatula to level off the top of the mould, ensuring the bottom of your finished container will be flat and smooth.
- If you're creating a lid for your container, repeat the same process with the smaller lid mold. Fill, tap to remove bubbles, and level the surface.
- Allow the mixture to set and cure according to the material's instructions. Cement usually requires at least 24 hours to fully cure, while Jesmonite may cure faster, depending on the specific formula used.
De-mould the Container: Once fully cured, gently peel away the silicone mould from the container. The flexible silicone should make this process easy. Carefully remove the lid as well, if applicable.
Finishing Touches: Use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth any rough edges or imperfections on the container or lid. If you desire, you can paint or seal the container for added durability and aesthetics.
Your candle container is now ready for use! Simply fill it with your favourite candle wax and wick, or use it as a decorative storage container.
Special Note: If you’re new to using silicone moulds, consider making a small test batch first to get a feel for the process.
After use, clean the silicone mould with warm, soapy water and allow it to dry completely before storing.
