One of the most important items that you need to decide on before starting the process is the candle wax. There are a number of different wax’s to choose from. You just need to know which the right one for your needs is. To help you select the best wax for your needs, we have listed out the different waxes that we supply, the best uses for them and how to use them correctly.

Soy Wax
This is a biodegradable and environmentally conscious vegetable wax that has been made from the oils of soybeans. This is done during the harvesting process where the beans are made into flakes, from there the oil is extracted from the flakes and then hydrogenated. This is important in the process because it converts some of the fatty acids from unsaturated to saturated which alters the melting point of the oil.
This a more natural wax, that is often used by candle makers. It can also be combined with other types of wax’s and natural oils to create a new type of wax entirely.
This wax has a fantastic cold throw, is easy to clean up, has a high fragrance load and is a clean burning fuel source. This wax also is slower burning, giving you a longer burn time.

Paraffin Wax
This wax is the most widely used wax candle making today. This is because it is an excellent material for storing heat which makes it the perfect wax to use when making a candle. Today paraffin is being used in conjunction with other natural wax’s to create candles.
This wax is extremely cost effective, and versatile in use.
This wax is a non-toxic by-product of the petroleum industry. It is manufactured locally, has a fantastic hot throw and is a clean burning fuel source.

Bees Wax
This wax is the oldest known type of candle wax and is another great ecofriendly wax option. It is produced in the bee hive and the wax is actually formed by eight wax producing glands that are found in the abdominal segments of the worker bees. When the honey comb is produced the bee keeper will collect it and cut off the wax caps from it. This will then be used for a number of different aspects, including as a wax for candles. This is because it is highly flammable.
Bee’s wax candles have long been used in a variety of different religions and is known mainly for making the Easer Candle. This wax delivers a smooth finish with a natural mild honey fragrance.
A 100% bees wax candle will be very hard in consistency, and we recommend blending it with soy / coconut / shea butter to soften the emulsion if so desired. Bees wax is also used in cosmetic products.
With a smokeless burn, soft texture, and properties that purify the air – it is preferred by many for candle making.

Apart from wax, other items are being used to create candles. Shea butter, coconut oil and citronella oil are also being used in conjunction with candle wax to create the candles we see today. Citronella candles are especially popular as they help to keep away the mosquitoes and other bugs during the hot summer nights.
