Soy Coconut Blend wax:
This blend of wax is very efficient as an introduction to working with container candle making.  The wax is able to be blended and poured at a lower temperature, hence ensuring a very smooth finish to the candle. This also ensures a faster melt pool paired with the correct wick.
It is much softer than normal soy wax, due to the added coconut element.
Stearic acid can be added at 10% ratio to ensure a harder set.
It also blends well with candle specific colour.

Soy Coconut Blend wax:
  • Is made from hydrogenated and deodorised soy bean and Coconut oil.
  • A medium fragrance tolerance (8%)
  • Smooth initial creamy finish.
  • Good container adhesion.
  • Excellent oil absorption resulting in exceptional hot and cold scent throw.
  • It is a versatile and cost effective Soy Coconut blend wax.
  • Supplier: SA Candle Supply pty Ltd
  • Suggested Fragrance Load: 8 % depending on the potency of the fragrance.
  • Suggested Fragrance temp: 70℃
  • Suggested Pour Temp: 48 – 50℃
  • Melt Point: 50℃
  • Solid Form: Block and appears slightly yellow / cream colour with a soft butter like texture.
  • Uses: Container Candles only / not suited for massage candles
  • Storage: in a cool dry space, as it can melt in mild to high temperatures.
  • Note: This product may contain dark particles on occasion.
Important: Wick selection on this wax is crucial, as it is softer wax, it may require wicking down. Ie selecting a smaller wick, wood wicks are not recommended for this wax, own testing required. We have provided our recommendations below.

Note that the below instructions are based on our in-house testing, and you should also explore the below handling sheet, and to conduct your own testing with fragrance loads and colouring. (Download the complimentary testing sheet) We recommend a 6-8% fragrance load using our fragrance range.  We advise the use of a digital thermometer to assist in measuring the correct temperatures of the wax.

Preparation:
Ensure that you work on a safe surface, candle wicks are firmly in place, and that the max fill line have been market with a non-permanent marker to ensure that the jars are not over filled.
Lay down a few newspapers, as pouring candles can sometimes be messy.

Step 1 – Melting
  • Wax should be melted in a Bain Marie double pot and should not be exposed to direct heat.
  • Melt your wax over a low heat slowly to reach between 75℃. The wax will have a slight milky look, which is normal.
  • Take care not to heat over 80℃ as this can influence the setting and performance of the wax. Overheated wax is very opaque in colour and can result in injury. It can also cause discolouration in the final product.
  • If adding stearic acid Add to the wax to blend together whilst melting.

Step 2 – Adding Colour and Fragrance
  • Add fragrance at 70/72℃ and stir gently for a minute.
  • If adding colour, we advise to add it before the fragrance to ensure that the colour blends well with the wax.

Step 3 – Pouring
  • Once your fragrance and colour has blended, and the wax has cooled down to approx. 48-50℃ it is ready to be poured. The wax will still have a slight milky appearance. If the wax is too cool, it will create cavities in the way when drying the first pour.
  • This wax does take much longer to cool down to the pouring temperature due to the coconut element. Take regular temperature readings.

If topping up
  • Fill the container and leave 2cm at the maximum filling line for the top-up. Leave at least 500ml of wax for the topping, depending on the volume of candles made.
  • It is important to have the containers at the same temperature as the ambient room temperature.

Step 4 – Curing & Topping up
  • Allow wax to cure for 12 hours. This wax will take much longer to set fully.

If a Top Up is Needed:
  • Warm up the remainder of the wax using a small Bain Marie to 54℃
  • Top up the final layer of the candle at 48-50 degrees to the maximum fill line of your containers. Allow to set for another 12 hours.
  • For very tall container candles, a half/ half pour would be needed to prevent any sinkholes in the candle.

Important NOTE:
  • Soy Coconut blend wax can be a 1 pour candle depending on the ambient setting temperature, use a heat gun to smooth out the tops, if doing 1 pour.
  • To ensure optimal performance, we strongly recommend first-time users conduct a test run on a small batch before using the wax in full-scale production.
